
Popularly known as Rajghat, this site lying on the banks of river Yamuna, has some very important national shrines.
Rajghat
This is where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated on January 31, 1948. The Samadhi of Gandhi is a raised square platform with the words "Hay Ram" - the last words he uttered after his by Godsa's bullet, engraved on it.
Shantivan
The second national shrine at this site is dedicated to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
Vijay Ghat
Another national shrine of a former Prime Minister of India - Lal Bahadur Shastri. His Samadhi bears the words " Jai Jawan Jai Kisan".
Shakti Sthal
This shrine is dedicated to Indira Gandhi, daughter of Pt Nehru and former Prime Minister of India. She was cremated after her assassination by Punjabi militants in October 1984.
Vir Bhumi hotel in delhi
Dedicated to Rajiv Gandhi, the youngest Prime Minister of India, who was assassinated by a suicide bomber at Sri Perambadur.
